Just change your mind!

Today I received Carrie Wilkerson’s newsletter (The Barefoot Executive) and it really blessed me.  She was asked how she lost over 100 pounds, got out of over $100,000 in debt, improved her relationships, and got on the road to great success and happiness as a stay-at-home entrepreneur.  She said it was one thing that changed her life: she changed her mind. That sounds so easy and simple, almost too good to be true. But the Bible says in Ephesians 4:22-24 that we are to renew our minds daily with His word – which means we are changing our minds, changing our thoughts to ones that are positive, hopeful, full of life, and that line up with God’s word.

Here is Carrie’s encouraging message today. You can sign up for her newsletter at The Barefoot Executive.

Face to face: quiet time with God

Moses told God that he wanted to see His glory. God told Moses no man could see His face, and live. But He said His glory would pass by Moses in the cleft of the rock, and Moses could see His back side. I have often wondered about that verse, and reminded God that He is no respecter of persons – if Moses could see a side of God that no one before or since has seen, then I want to see Him, too. Maybe His chin, or His ear?  The point is that I desire that deep intimacy with God. Each day we need that quiet time with God and His word to be filled up with Him. It’s like having coffee with God each day. Join Beth today as she shares encouragement from her book Walking With God and God’s word on intimacy with God in prayer.

Overcoming fear of public speaking

girl publicly speakingDid you know that fear of public speaking is the number one fear for Americans?  It ranks right up there with fear of death, snakes, and heights!

Several years ago, God began opening the door for me to begin sharing my testimony and teaching His word to women. When I first began publicly speaking, I would literally physically shake with fear. My voice would tremble, I sweat profusely, and I felt almost like I was going to faint!  I would just freak out before each speaking engagement, and my family would have to calm my nerves for days!  Looking back on it, it is funny now – but at the time it wasn’t!

Obviously I was not alone with this problem. Abraham Lincoln, Oprah, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Jay Leno allegedly used to have anxiety before speakingHarrison Ford, star of Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, says speaking in front of others is a “mixed bag of terror and anxiety.”

Over time, it has become easier for me to speak.  Actually, now I love it!  Yes, I still get a few butterflies before any important speaking engagement, but with more practice it’s getting a lot better.   One way I am overcoming fear of public speaking and refining speaking skills is by joining a local Toastmasters club. What is Toastmasters?  I wrote an article on it here at my website, What Is Toastmasters?

If you struggle with nervousness when you speak in front of others, Toastmasters is a great place to help you conquer that fear, to give you plenty of practice publicly speaking at your own pace, and to improve your speaking and leadership skills. You’ll also have lots of fun and make new friends!
