Good intentions

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I had every intention of having a productive week ~ writing, blogging, working on an upcoming radio show, and majorly cleaning our house. On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday I was busy playing the part of an angel with our church’s drama (good excuse, using doing something for God, right?).  By mid-week, Ray and I were having some intense domestic fellowship (translation:  we were trying not to kill each other). We finally got over that after a few days. I can’t do anything when Ray and I are at odds; it totally distracts me.  So I determined that Saturday (yesterday) would be my BIG day to get all the things done on my to-do list.  Here is what I did instead:

me at Olive Garden November 2009That is right. Instead of being productive, I went to Olive Garden with our daughter Heather, and enjoyed an appetizer of calamari with dipping sauces of marinara and dill, a salad, the infamous garlic breadsticks, chicken alfredo, iced water with a lemon wedge, and a single glass of the nearly $5.00, red Rosso house wine.

Then I went home and took a long nap; when I woke up, I went to the Redbox booth in town and rented the totally mindless, Tyler Perry new movie, Madea Goes To Jail. Well, so much for vacuuming the house.

Now I don’t usually do this.  Most days I faithfully check off all the items on my to-do list.  If I do something not on the list, at the end of the day I write that on the list too, and check that off (the melancholy part of my personality).  I am NOT a procrastinator by nature; in fact, I hate procrastination. So what gives this week?

As I’ve shared before, Cindy Rushton is my role model for true godly success in writing, speaking, wifehood, and homeschooling. So I felt really bad and lazy after watching her YouTube vlog, Bust That Plateau: Set Daily Goals. The woman is a non-stop, production machine

I finally decided that this was just what I really needed to do. Have you ever had one of those weeks?  Where you did absolutely (gloriously) nothing

As long as we don’t make this a habit, I believe sometimes we need time off from our busy schedules to just do something fun (shocked gasp). We don’t need to beat ourselves up that we didn’t finish our “important” goals.  Life is meant to be lived.

We can always gain our momentum back. In fact, sometimes we need some rest and refreshment to be able to accomplish much more in the long run.  This week I will get back on track, probably leaving a trail of smoke behind me, and doing double what I aim for. (Keep me accountable, ok? I expect my email inbox to be filled with screaming protests if I don’t post at least three new blogs this week.)

Take some time out for fun this week.  That to-do list will still be there after you get back looking at the pretty, fall leaves with your child at the park, dancing at the friend’s wedding, eating at a Japanese steakhouse with your husband, or shopping for a new, warm hoodie with your best friend.

Eternity drama a success!

me and Jennifer at dramaThis week we had our Eternity drama at our church. Here I am, pictured at right with my new beautiful friend from church, Jennifer. We both played the part of an angel in the drama.  Mrs. Pack, who wrote the drama and puts it on with her husband Mr. Pack, uses the congregation of the churches where she goes for the actors. Mrs. Pack plays the lead role of the figure Eternity, and is an anointed, beautiful woman of God.

God did amazing things during the drama. The first night our entire church was filled with people, and many people went forward to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  The second night was a little discouraging, with very few in attendance. But we just did the drama as unto the Lord, and people got saved again! The third night, more people showed up and more people got saved – it was the most anointed night!

Here are Mr. and Mrs. Pack – what a wonderful, gifted, sweet couple who really love Jesus!  They have left now, going on to the next place God has for them. I will miss Mrs. Pack; I really got attached to her while she was here!

The man who played the judgment angel at the judgment seat of Christ. These were some of the most powerful scenes during the drama, showing those who had rejected Christ and who were sentenced to hell. We also had some beautiful scenes of the glory of heaven, with God and Jesus.

The baby who portrayed baby Jesus, and his mom. My friend Jennifer at the church saw this woman and her baby in the store one afternoon and thought he’d be perfect for the part of baby Jesus. So she spontaneously asked her if she’d be willing to let him be in it, and the mom agreed. While Jennifer was talking to the mom, someone else from our church who knew this mom was calling her on her cell phone to ask her if she’d let her baby be in the drama!  Isn’t God just wild how He confirms things?

Through this outreach, we were able to share the gospel of Christ in our own community in a creative way. We discovered that when we came together in unity as one body, God could do powerful things. Many of the people in our church discovered they had gifts and talents they didn’t know they even had!  We had a great time together, and now plan to disciple the new converts in our church through the New Believers Handbook, to help them grow in their faith and in their understanding of God’s word.

What can you do today to share the good news about Jesus?

“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news, proclaim peace, bring glad tidings of good things, proclaim salvation, and proclaim to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52: 7)

Are you ready for Eternity?

our church for the dramaOur church is having a drama, Eternity, beginning tomorrow night November 1, and November 2 and 3.  We all can’t wait -it’s going to be so awesome!  Here is the way our beautiful church is decorated for it, with God’s throne in heaven.

Pastor and Mrs. Pack, who are putting on the drama (Mrs. Pack wrote it and they’ve been doing this in various churches for 30 years!), are using nearly everyone in our church and some people from our community in it, from a week-old baby boy portraying baby Jesus to the most senior citizen working the spotlight.  Mrs. Pack asked me to play the role of a lead angel. This is the second time I’ve been an angel in a church drama. But this time I have a few more duties, such as escorting some people to heaven, passing out out the harps and the golden bowls for the prayers of the saints, and holding the Book of Life at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Being a writer in real life, I felt that being able to hold the big book was really cool!  (Having wings is kind of fun, too, haha!)

My beautiful, new friend at church, Jennifer, is playing the other adult angel, and we can’t wait until it’s our time to come down the aisle to the upbeat, praise music; we plan to dance a little coming down the aisle as everybody in the audience is clapping and having a good time.  The joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8: 10), and why let the heathens have all the fun?  :)

There are more serious scenes, though. The drama depicts parts from the book of Revelation, and challenges the audience “Are you ready for Eternity?” Various death scenes are going to be shown of people stepping into eternity: two soldiers killed in war; a young couple having too much to drink, then driving and wrecking; a husband having a heart attack in church; a false prophet preaching in church falling over dead; a young girl having an abortion and dying; a teen’s party interrupted by a deadly tornado.  Some will go to heaven, and others will go to hell.

Sometimes those who thought they were going to heaven -such as the prophet who  was preaching! – are sadly mistaken, and hear the terrifying words from God the Father, “Depart from Me, I never knew you.”  (Luke 13: 27) They are then thrown into hell by the judgment angel, with satan laughing at his latest “catch.”

In the end, though, satan himself is thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20: 10)  Those who receive Christ live forever with Him in heaven (John 3: 16), where there is no more sorrow, no more tears or pain – only eternal joy and peace, worshipping Jesus forever!  (Revelation 21: 4)  God is the Almighty God and King, who reigns forever and ever. (Psalm 47:8)

I want to ask you, dear reader, because I really care.  Are you ready for eternity right now?  Have you said yes to Jesus?

“Companions as we are in this work with you, we beg you, please don’t squander one bit of this marvelous life God has given us. God reminds us, ’I heard your call in the nick of time; The day you needed me, I was there to help.’ Well, now is the right time to listen, the day to be helped.”  (2 Corinthians 6:1-3, The Message)

All who call on the name of the Lord Jesus will be saved! (Romans 10:13)

We are praying that there is a great turnout for this drama, and that many people are saved!  Please say a prayer for God’s anointing upon us and for hearts ready to receive Jesus Christ tomorrow night, Monday and Tuesday night. Hopefully our daughter Heather can get some good pictures of the actual drama for me to post on here this week! It is going to be GREAT!
