Me by waterfall at Dickerson Park Zoo

Yesterday’s blog was on the trip our daughter Leah and I made to Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, MO.

I loved the waterfalls they had there and all the pretty flowers.

Here are the last of the brief vlogs from our fun visit there. Enjoy!

Yesterday’s blog was on mine and our daughter Leah’s spontaneous day trip to Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, MO. The landscape was nice, with pretty flowers, a large sundial, and waterfalls.

Here is a picture of Leah with the souvenir she wanted in the gift shop, a soft, “fluffy,” giant wolf.

Below are some more videos of our fun time there. Enjoy!

Videos of Dickerson Park Zoo animals

Leah Jones by waterfall at the zoo

Today I wanted to just get out of the house and do something new and fun. I drove with our daughter Leah two hours to Springfield, MO, to Dickerson Park Zoo. It has pretty landscaping with flowers, a sundial, and fountains, displays a variety of animals, provides shaded spots to give you relief from the heat, and is very reasonably priced (adults and teens $8, children ages 3 to 12 are $5).

At the zoo today, I pondered these things from God, observing the animals:

  • It’s going to take some work to reach your desired destination in life (the two hour drive to Springfield)
  • Walk in Christ’s humility; don’t call undue attention to yourself or be prideful (peacocks who kept yelling obnoxiously and strutting around)
  • Follow the leader – the Lord Jesus!  (baby geese following the mother goose)
  • Stop stressing!  Enter God’s rest each day (the kangaroos, tiger, and lions laying in the shade from the heat)
  • Get connected with others – you and others will be blessed (giraffe eating cracker from the child)
  • We really need each other, both in our family and friend relationships, and in joint ventures (flamingos, zebras)
  • Things are not always what they seem, and our enemy is crafty and evil with plans to destroy us (huge python looked dead in glass box, but was very much alive; cheetah was hidden in the grass, but is the fastest mammal on earth)
  • Sometimes the most beautiful blessings come when you least expect them (my favorite bird, the red cardinal,  flew near us as we were walking on the trail)
  • Use what you’ve got to get what you want! (elephants using their feet and trunks to eat the grass, monkeys using their long tails for movement)

Here are some brief vlogs of Leah’s and my trip to the zoo today. Enjoy!

A good Father

HD t.v.

Tomorrow is Father’s Day. I was at Walmart awhile ago to pick up toothpaste, and there were last-minute, Father’s Day shoppers, looking at large, cotton t-shirts with humorous slogans or Spiderman  on them, fishing poles, 47-inch plasma HD t.v.’s, etc.

For other people, the idea of a father (dad, daddy, papa) brings up either sadness because their dad has passed away and they deeply miss him, or because of bad childhood memories -  fathers who were workaholics, emotionally or physically MIA, cold, distant, critical, or even abusive verbally, physically, or sexually.  Father’s Day is a painful day for these sons and daughters, one they would just rather forget.

If your father has died or wasn’t a good dad, I want to encourage you that we have a heavenly Father who is always there for you and me, a good Father who deeply loves and forgives us. (John 3: 16)   His love is unconditional, his mercy new every morning.  (Lamentions 3: 22-23)  He will never leave or abandon us.  (Hebrews 13: 5)

God is not like your earthly father, but one who cries over the things that hurt your heart, even putting your tears in His bottle (Psalm 56: 8).   He delights in you, and even sings and dances over you with His love.  (Zephaniah 3: 17)  God made you, and thinks your face is beautiful and your voice is sweet. (Song of Solomon 2: 14)  In fact, God sees you as his piece de resistance - His showpiece that He desires to display for His glory!

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2: 10, New Living Translation)

Tomorrow, as we celebrate Father’s Day, thank all the men in your life who you wish to honor as fathers. It’s not an easy role.  And be sure to tell God “Happy Father’s Day,” too!   He’d rather hear that than even have a big, HD t.v.  :)

Prayer for pastors Felix, Alpha and Grace in Africa

Kilgali, Rwanda church congregation

My website Tablet of My Heart is for the purpose of encouraging women to seek daily intimacy with Jesus Christ, using their spiritual gifts for God’s glory and fulfilling their destiny in Christ. Its primary theme is intimacy with God – quiet time with Him through prayer, studying His word, and worship – and women fulfilling their great purpose for God’s kingdom.

Occasionally, I also blog about other topics.  One of the passions that beats in my own heart are the countries of Israel and Africa. I believe God wants His people to pray for the nations of the earth – our own nation and others that He lays on our hearts.

I have blogged before about pastor Felix, a contact of my husband Ray’s in Africa. Pastor Felix, his wife Alpha, and their beautiful children are like so many families in Africa, who depend continually upon God for daily provision. We who are here in America have so much to be thankful for, not realizing how bad it really is in Third World nations.

Pastor Felix is a full-time pastor who travels throughout Africa to share the good news of Jesus with others. His wife, Alpha, takes care of their children,  and she is a part-time pastor at a new church being launched June 27, 2010 by senior pastor Grace, called Amazing Grace Church in Zana estate Kampala.

Pastor Felix also has a fellowship of believers called The Eagles Fellowship International which is growing more with new members every Sunday when they meet.  They start at 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at his Namungoona residence opposite the police Post.

Pastor Felix preaching in Kilgali, Rwanda church

Pastor Felix and his ministry have collected dozens of clothes, shoes, and sacks of beans  to give donations in August 2010 to Gulu in northern Uganda, where civil war has claimed many lives and left families displaced.  According to pastor Felix, the Lord’s resistance movement rebels have been fighting for over 18  years and engaged the government of Uganda UPDF soldiers in War.  Many women and children have been abducted, raped, and have been taken as sex slaves.

The war has moved to the Congo and the Central Republic. Donations still needed for displaced families are sacks of beans, rice, sugar, cooking oils, shoes for children, toys, books, and children’s literature.

In December donations from Pastor Felix’s ministry will be given to southern Sudan, which neighbors Uganda and Kenya. Sudan has been in war for over 22 years. It was only a few years back that peace came to Sudan.

Pastor Alpha and their baby Tabitha

If  you feel led by God, you can give donations to pastor Felix at the address at the bottom of the blog post here.  Please continue to keep the nation of Africa, and specifically pastor Felix, pastor Alpha, pastor Grace, and their families in prayer.

Eat, Pray, Love book and movie, other summer plans

Beth Jones, Jacksonville, FL beach

What are some of your plans this summer?  This week our daughter Leah and I did some “pet sitting” for friends who took a trip to Michigan.  Below is a brief clip of Tucker (red golden retriever) and Grace (part Beagle puppy).  They were always glad to see us as well as the cat, Todd (who’s much more calm than the dogs, who love to jump on you.) Tucker also enjoys playing “soccer,” chasing the ball and picking it up with his teeth after you kick it.

This summer I have a checklist of things to do.  Have you made your checklist?  What are your summer plans?

  • Become more of a student of God’s word
  • Do fun things with my kids and grandkids
  • Take some road trips to someplace new
  • Go on at least a mini-vacation with Ray, ALONE
  • Read some new good books. Eat, Pray, Love is on my list to read -although I do NOT agree with palm reading or eastern meditation!  The movie with Julia Roberts comes out soon, and I can’t wait!   The  trailer’s lines intrigued me – “Who are you?….Risk everything…I used to have this appetite for my life.”   My favorite line that Julia says in the trailer is, “I want to go someplace where I can marvel at something.”
  • Get at least a little tan (each summer I should win the award for whitest legs)
  • Increase my productivity and fruitfulness for God without being just busier
  • Exercise regulary (3-4 times weekly minimum), applying the ideas from the Fat Loss Motivation Report.
  • Somehow get to the beach this summer!  A must!
  • Have more webinars and prepare for my two speaking engagements in the fall
  • Laugh more – savor the blessing of life from God!

Below,  enjoy the brief clip of the dogs, Tucker and Grace. Don’t you just love dogs’ happy expressions?

Here is the movie trailer from Eat, Pray, Love with Julia Roberts.

3 P’s in a Pod: Prayer, Purpose, Passion webinar a success!

Thanks to all of you who came to my first-ever webinar, 3 P’s in a Pod: Prayer, Purpose, Passion!  God’s presence was there, I believe that the women attending were encouraged, and praise God there were NO technical problems!  GOD IS GOOD!  Praise the Lord!  Each woman attending received bonus goodies just for coming, including my ebook Walking With God

Here is some encouraging feedback from Mara, who attended the webinar.  http://hisfave.com/2010/06/what_a_blessing/

Frankly, I was scared to death to do this webinar!  It was a huge step of faith for me. I had never done a webinar before and didn’t know how to do it, but I researched it and talked to a friend who had done them before.  Next, I prepared my power point, posted a blog about it, tweeted about it to invite women to come, and then just stepped out in faith – like Peter getting out of the boat to walk on the water toward Jesus!

Sometimes we just have to trust God and take that first scary step.  He will be there to help us every step of the way.

I am planning to have more upcoming webinars with other speakers, so if you are not already subscribed on my personal mailing list, be sure to sign up today at the top of the website on the right hand side to stay connected and to get the details.   The next webinar will probably be in July with another speaker, and it is going to be GREAT!

When you sign up on my mailing list,  you will receive my free special report, Keys To Intimacy. You will also receive articles, audios, ebooks, and other bonus goodies, that will encourage you in your daily walk with God and to fulfill your destiny in Christ.

Today at noon central time, a licensed family counselor, Celeste, with Innervision Christian Counseling, is interviewing me live on air on radio station WMUZ (103.5 FM – The Light)  in Detroit, MI.  The program also plays simultaneously in St. Louis, MO.  Celeste will be talking to me about my testimony, my website, and my products for sale here.

I will be sharing on 3 steps to your dreams and fulfilling your purpose in Christ.   This was an unexpected blessing this week, and I am very thankful to God for this wonderful opportunity.  You can tune into the station here.

The more I seek You

Today my friend Karla Meachem shared a YouTube video on Facebook with the song The More I seek You. I love this woman’s coat and her hair, and she has got an incredible voice. I pray this blesses you as much as it did me today.

Are you seeking Him?

“When you said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “O Lord, I will seek Your face.” ~ Psalm 27:8, God’s Word Translation

Rare treasures

Kimberly Ehlers

Once in awhile, someone precious comes across your path who is just a kindred spirit, someone who’s a dear friend from the start. Even though I have never met her in person, Kimberly Ehlers is that friend to me.  Kimberly and I first “met” online when we took Cindy Rushton’s coaching class together last year.  I hope one day to actually meet her in person to chat and to have some coffee together!  :)

Kimberly has a beautiful, wonderful website for parents of children with health challenges, that is like a rare treasure chest – words that pour straight from her heart of Christ’s love.  Kimberly’s son Seth has an awesome testimony of God’s miraculous healings of multiple heart defects since birth.  I encourage you to “take off your shoes and stay awhile,” as people in the south where I grew up say.  You will be so blessed by Kimberly’s sincere, gentle, loving, and powerful articles, blog posts, and products.   Her Messy Motives and Wrong Way Roads and her Faith Challenge devotionals and audios are just INCREDIBLE!

This week Kimberly posted my article on marriage here. Be sure to dig into all her treasures there at her website, and be blessed!
