Romantic Weekend Getaways

There’s still a little bit of summer left, and maybe you and your husband just need a get-away together, without the kids.  Here are some of the most romantic weekend getaways in the U.S. to consider:

Manhattan.  You can spend an unforgettable weekend in New York City and stay at the Marriott Hotel on Broadway, which is right near the Theatre District, or at the Plaza Hotel overlooking Central Park.  Or need to relax?  Maybe you’d like to stay at the Mandarin Hotel and Spa, where you can both be pampered for the weekend!

Manhattan is considered one of the most romantic spots in the U.S.  You can enjoy dinner in your hotel suite or at any one of the five star restaurants, take a carriage ride through Central Park, enjoy an opera or symphony at Lincoln Center, or walk along Fifth Avenue during the evening hours. There’s plenty to do for everyone in New York!

San Francisco. With the beautiful hills, great cuisine, and friendly people, San Francisco offers hotel stays that you will love.  Some of the most well known hotels are the Fairmont hotel in the Nob Hill area, the Mandarin Oriental with for its lovely views of the Bay and the city, or the downtown W San Francisco hotel that is close to cable cars, shopping, restaurants, and theatres.

I have wanted to ride in one of those red cable cars for years, so that is on my Bucket List!

In San Francisco, if you take a walk on Fisherman’s Wharf, you can stop by Ghirardelli Square where you can get some of their famous, delicious chocolate (can we all say YUM!), before dinner at one of the many seafood restaurants.

Some of the more famous ones are McCormick and Kuleto’s, where you can have a stunning view of the Bay and Alcatraz Island.

Las Vegas.   You have quite a choice of hotels when you fly or drive here.  With hot weather year round, you can spend your early morning hours at the hotel’s pool and enjoy your nights at a show.

You can stay at the Venetian Hotel and enjoy a romantic ride on a gondola, relax at the Spa and Salon at the Hotel Bellagio, or enjoy the lush indoor gardens, aquarium, and the Secret Garden at the Mirage.

Lake Placid.  Away from the noisy crowds, you can find comfort and romance at the Mirror Lake Inn.  You’ll love the gorgeous mountain and lake views, fireplace, and large tubs (Ray and I especially love the big tubs for hot soaks – together!)  🙂

You can take  a walk to the town of Lake Placid just two miles away, where there’s shops and the Cottage for lunch.  Try the Cottage’s baked brie topped with fresh sliced apple, sliced almonds, raspberry coulis, and served with flat bread and a French roll.  Some of the activities in town that you can enjoy are swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. The calm and quiet ambience here is the perfect weekend getaway for couples.

If you’re on a tighter budget, you can find a reasonably-priced bed and breakfast nearer home or a day spent together at a park, downtown Kansas City for some fun window shopping and a carriage ride, or an evening out at a nice restaurant like Olive Garden or The Cheesecake Factory.

Ray has to attend a work conference for a few days this coming week in Osage Beach, MO (near the Ozarks), and I am going with him so we can spend time together alone – with NO kids!   🙂   Take advantage of your husband’s work conferences like this to have a needed break for just the two of you.
