Take it easy (Ray in Winslow, Arizona) and the restaurants we tried on our Grand Canyon trip

One of the funnest things about going on a trip is the unexpected, the spontaneity. This can be good or bad, but it is all part of the excitement and breaking out of your daily routine and the mundane. Traveling, while it  can test your predetermined budget and be stressful at times, can expand your mind and thrill your heart.

A quote on https://theplanetd.com/the-ultimate-travel-quotes-as-chosen-by-you/ says, “Great things never came from comfort zones.” So true!

When my husband Ray, our daughter Leah, and I traveled to visit the Grand Canyon in Arizona to celebrate Leah’s college graduation, Ray and Leah (both science buffs) decided after we had seen the Canyon, that the next morning we would drive to see the Meteor Crater near Flagstaff, Arizona on Route 66 (a famous highway that stretches across the USA for 2,400 miles, crosses 8 states, and three time zones). The crater measures 550 deep and is almost a mile wide.

The website says the iron-nickel meteorite impacted the area with a force 150 times greater than an atomic bomb. Ray and Leah were disappointed to find that the area was closed temporarily, and we could not go after all.

But I was secretly relieved. We didn’t have our hats or sunscreen, and I just wanted to go shopping for souvenirs for Leah and me!

Our beautiful cabin on our Grand Canyon trip for Leah’s college graduation

Where you stay on a vacation can be just as important as where you go and what you do. Originally  I had booked a hotel near the Grand Canyon when I planned a trip there with my husband Ray and our daughter Leah, to celebrate her college graduation with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Graphic Design.

But Leah searched online and found a big, beautiful cabin in a remote area near the airport in Flagstaff, Arizona  for us to stay at, and I’m so glad she did! Initially, I was concerned that it might be in the middle of dark, deep, scary woods and we might encounter grizzly bears and cougars at our cabin’s front door, LOL. Ray and Leah rolled their eyes at this!

It was remote, not not too remote—several vacation rental and residential houses were nearby, as well as a Dollar General store and a Shell gas station, which proved to be quite convenient for our water and snack needs and refilling the gas tank in our rented SUV, prior to returning it at the airport the early morning of our departure. Ray filled up the gas tank the evening before we left.

It was perfect for our vacation trip! The cabin was big, rustic, quiet, with cute nooks and crannies, and so comfortable with pretty decorations, like this pic below: “Not all who wander are lost.” I highly recommend this cabin, which can sleep up to 12 people.  The vacation rental agency has many more properties to rent, also. Our trip to Grand Canyon to celebrate Leah’s college graduation

Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon

Our youngest daughter Leah graduated this year (in spring 2021) from college with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Graphic Design. My husband Ray and our family are so proud of her for this huge accomplishment! Ray and I have rarely been able to take our children on vacation throughout the years, due to the expensive cost. But because Ray and I received our stimulus checks this year, we were able to travel to Arizona to visit the Grand Canyon to celebrate Leah’s graduation. What an amazing blessing from God!
