    Like the rest of the armor, the shoes were specialized as well.  They were called caligulae.  When the apostle exhorts us to have our feet shod, he is in effect saying “strap on your combat boots.”  If you desire peace, you prepare for war.  Those boots allowed Roman soldiers to travel great distances without the foot problems faced by other armies, and arrive able to battle, not needing to wait until they healed up enough to walk again.
