A Writer’s Oasis

Friday, May 31, 2019–Sunday, June 2, 2019
Arrive at  4 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019
Depart at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019

Do you need a quiet place to refill and relax–an oasis from the daily stress, noise, and demands?

As a busy wife and mom (or a husband or dad), you know that it’s hard to get away at any time and anywhere. Your spouse and your children–and so many others–are depending on you!

Every day, you have so many things on your to-do list…and when will they ever get done? (Like your work or ministry requirements or Mount Never-Rest of dishes and laundry!)

When what you really want to do is be alone a minute and breathe…and write.

What’s an aspiring author to do? You just want to write your book. You’re in good company. The statistics say that 81% of people feel they want or need to write one. For years, you’ve been saying you want to write it. Don’t go to the grave with your book still inside of you!

Your writing matters. It’s a gift that God has given you, one that He doesn’t want you to waste, like the servant in the parable of the talents. (Matthew 25:14-30)

It’s time to unplug…from your hectic life, and yes, even your family, friends, and social media (gasp!).

To be refilled, encouraged, and motivated to pursue your writing dreams. The ones that are so often put on hold. The ones you wonder if they’ll ever come true.

To take a Selah pause out of your busy, stressful life, and just be. No long to-do lists! No laundry! No getting up early!

Have you been in a dry, desert place? It’s time to seek an oasis.

The definition of oasis is:

    “A fertile or green area in an arid region, such as a desert.

Something that provides refuge, relief, or a pleasant contrast.”

Your “home away from home”

Sound like a plan?

Then join me and other Christian writers for a weekend writers’ retreat at a lovely, immaculate, two-story home in the tiny, rural town of Butler, Missouri (a suburb of Kansas City, MO)–the Bethany House. Its nickname is “Your home away from home.”

What this writers’ get-away offers you:

  • Wi-fi if you can’t resist connecting while you’re away (I encourage unplugging for this time. It will do your soul good!);
  • Time to rest and refill, getting away from your busy, stressful life;
  • A quiet space to sleep, pray, and just breathe a minute alone;
  • Focused time to journal and write, working on your next book or project;
  • My teaching times to motivate you to write (whether you need encouragement and confidence-building for you to step out in faith or that kick in the butt–you know exactly what you need to get going!);
  • A Christian devotional time in the peaceful sunroom Saturday morning, where the sun streams through the big glass windows;
  • Breakfast provided free of charge on Saturday and Sunday morning and a luncheon on Saturday (please bring any special foods or food you’ll need if you’re on a special diet, such as gluten-free);
  • Water, tea, and coffee free of charge all weekend;
  • Lots of chocolate for you, of course;
  • Fun Friday night eating out as a group, then back to the Bethany House for just talking and sharing hearts and your big dreams. Your writing can take you places you have only dreamed of, as I can attest (My daughter Leah and I just traveled to Ireland, from the blessing of my book sales in 2018);
  • Anointed prayer time over you and your writing on Sunday before we leave, if you desire. This was the best part of our 2018 writer’s retreat!

The Bethany House has all the amenities of a nice hotel, but is much more private and peaceful!

  • 3 bedrooms (one master bedroom with a queen-size bed, another bedroom with a full-size bed, and the upstairs loft, decorated in a cute children’s theme, has two single beds);
  • 3 bathrooms (even soft, white robes are provided, like hotels have);
  • fully-stocked kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot, dishes, silverware, drinking and wine glasses, cups, pots, and pans);
  • sun room with big glass windows to view birds feeding outside in the morning, to journal and pray, with a charming breakfast nook;
  • wrap-around big porch outside with large, white rockers to enjoy the beauty of spring.

“I believe myself that a good writer doesn’t really need

to be told anything except to keep at it.” –Chinua Achebe

Testimonial from a writer who attended this writer’s retreat in 2018:

“Beth, I just finished your book, How to Write Your Book Fast…it’s like I could hear your voice the whole time! Of course, you shared so much of this book with us on the retreat. I am doubly blessed to have heard it and now to have read it. Thank you.

We leave for vacation in Angel Fire, NM for the next six days and I have plans to write and take photos for my book project (an inspirational “coffee table” type book about all that I have learned “in the valley” of this year) while I am there! I can’t wait to just start!

Thank you for all that you do to encourage women’s dreams.

And now I am on vacation and I just wrote the first draft of my intro, five chapters, and a conclusion for my book called Finding Hope in the Valley!

And my two oldest sons with me on this trip have done a beautiful job of taking pictures, which I will use throughout the book. Our vacation rental cabin is on the side of a mountain and there is a small valley nearby where our kids love to run and play. The photos will all be from here. It is such a special place!

I cannot wait to share this. I just read through the rough draft for the first time immediately after finishing it, and it brought me to tears! I’m in awe of what God just did with my story of grief and loss from this year.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Beth. I cannot thank you enough for your encouragement and direction.”–Missy Hoffman, Kansas
