Winter Storm Cato is beginning, with 1,200 flights cancelled across the U.S. Although it’s primarily hitting the northeast U.S., the storm was already starting here in the Kansas City, MO area, very windy and cold, when I was picking up a few snacks for tomorrow.  I’m praying it will pass by Sunday, when Ray and I are supposed to eat out with our kids and grandkids at Cinzzetti’s Italian Market for our Thanksgiving meal. We had to coordinate Ray’s work schedule with our daughters Heather’s and Eden’s work schedules.

An Italian buffet is different from the traditional American Thanksgiving fare, but I’m REALLY looking forward to it! No cooking. No mess in the kitchen. (When Ray and Eden are in a kitchen cooking, it looks like a tornado hit it.) No dishes to wash. Just eating, relaxing, and enjoying our family!

My friend Shelley said one year for Thanksgiving, her family went out for Chinese at a restaurant. Love it!

As I told Shelley, the point of Thanksgiving isn’t cooking. It’s about spending time with family and friends and being thankful for the abundant blessings God gives us each day.

Happy Thanksgiving, my Canadian friends

Today is Day 13 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge. Today, October 13, is also Canada’s Thanksgiving Day. I want to wish my dear Canadian friends a very happy Thanksgiving, especially Doreen Penner, Karen Wells, Helen Reimer, and Lynette Boudreaux.

I didn’t know it was Canada’s Thanksgiving Day, but today this is what I posted on my Facebook business page:

“Heard the raindrops on the patio outside and felt the rain on my face today. See the leaves turning beautiful colors. Cooler sweater weather. Enjoying God’s creation. Thankful to be alive. Lead my steps today, Jesus.”

Canada was the first country to celebrate Thanksgiving. It was proclaimed a national holiday in 1879. Parliament called it “a day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed.”

When French settlers arrived in Canada, explorer Samuel de Champlain established a thanksgiving feast, drawing upon the traditions of First Nations tribes and earlier explorers. Canada celebrates Thanksgiving a lot like America does, with turkey, football, and family time. But they don’t see it as a kickoff to Christmas shopping. I like the idea of celebrating one holiday at a time. Ray is Superman hero

My husband Ray is either Superman coming  to my rescue, or else he simply wanted to avoid me having a major meltdown because of my laptop needing replacing.

Until I can buy a new laptop, I am using a combination of my smart phone, our daughter Leah‘s computer, and our old DINOSAUR computer to do my work.

Last night Ray created a temporary solution so I don’t take Leah’s computer hostage for the next couple of weeks: he got the dinosaur computer running again and attached a keyboard.

I’m thankful but this is a great test of patience, since the dinosaur computer and its keyboard are very S-L-O-O-O-O-W.  It makes me want to SCREAM! How am I ever going to get through the next couple of weeks until I can buy a new one?!!

But as Ray reminded me last night in bed, a true business person uses the resources available to him or her (and a mature one doesn’t whine or rant).

And Thanksgiving reminds me: BE THANKFUL FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE…even the dinosaur computer! Especially for God, family, friends, health, and all the blessings God has given me!

I’m going to ATTEMPT to continue with my blog series on my Canada trip. If this proves to be too patience-testing because of the dinosaur computer’s slowness, then I’ll pick it back up again after I buy the new laptop (which will be my early Christmas gift from Ray, by the way!).
