A new year gives HOPE

It’s a new year with exciting new opportunities, as well as new challenges like hiking a steep mountain as the woman is pictured above. The origin of the word opportunities comes from the Latin word opportunitatem, which means “fitness, convenience, suitableness, favorable time.”

Whether you’ve made New Year resolutions and goals, determining to be among the only 8% who achieve them, or you’ve chosen a “one word,” or you’ve decided to do nothing at all right now and que sera, sera (whatever will be, will be), a new year, like a new morning, always offers you a fresh slate to start over. Which is one reason I love it so much. A new year gives HOPE.

The definition above of the original Latin word for opportunities includes “favorable time.” God’s word says something about this, too:

“Thus says the LORD, “In a favorable time I have answered You, And in a day of salvation I have helped You; And I will keep You and give You for a covenant of the people, To restore the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritages.”–Isaiah 49:8

The year 2017 is a favorable time for you! God will answer you. He will help you. And He will give you hope. As my sweet speaker/author friend Sheryl Griffin says, “With Christ there is always hope.”

Yes, even in the eye of a storm, Jesus gives hope and is your anchor.

And when the winds and the waves crash all around you, and you feel afraid like the disciples did, Jesus will calm the storm inside you as He speaks to the storm outside you. He doesn’t want you to feel afraid. He wants you to place your trust and hope in Him.

Do you need HOPE today? Check out Beth’s first fiction and Amazon Best Seller eBook, Storm Tossed, about a woman who had to face the storm inside her, as well as the hurricane outside her. Is this the last Rachel will see of her husband Jackson and her daughter Faith? Will her beach house in Destin, Florida, stand? Will Rachel die in this dangerous storm?

Still searching

Beautiful blue & white peaks of Rockies mountains

Canadian Rockies mountains

I’ve been searching for answers about many things lately. My life. My business. My marriage.

My friend Ruth sent me an encouraging text yesterday-the name of a song: Trust in You by Lauren Daigle.

Some of the lines in the lyrics says:

“When You don’t move the mountains I’m needing You to move
When You don’t part the waters I wish I could walk through
When You don’t give the answers as I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You!

Truth is, You know what tomorrow brings
There’s not a day ahead You have not seen.”

Then yesterday when I attended Women’s Aglow, the artist-author speaker said something very similar: “When you don’t have the answer, trust God.”

That’s where I am right now. Sometimes when I’m not sure about the next step, it makes me feel better to eat chips and salsa, drink more coffee, enjoy a bit of chocolate, journal, and/or change my website theme. I suddenly changed my theme tonight. (This morning I had coffee and journaled. Yesterday I had the chips and salsa, and chocolate!)

This new theme is minimalist, clean, and simple. I hope you like it.

For now, I’m setting aside the VA/transcriptionist idea as an additional arm of my online business. While I may still do that as opportunities arise (I may change my mind next week!), I have to pursue my passion, which is speaking, writing books, and encouraging women to use their gifts and fulfill their God-given, great destiny. To walk in their own unique glass slippers–their unique purpose.

Let me know what you think of the new theme by your comments below.

Oh, and when you don’t have the answers either, trust God.

I dreamed of T-Rex dinosaurs; what are you running from?

T-Rex and Triceratops dinosaurs

T-Rex and Triceratops dinosaurs

Last night I dreamed of dinosaurs. Some other people and I were in the claws of a giant T-Rex. He was asleep, and we escaped and began running into buildings for safety as he woke up.

The T-Rex and another T-Rex then began chasing other people and other dinosaurs. He was attacking one dinosaur to eat it when I woke up.

The picture above is of our daughter Leah’s dinosaurs. She used to love dinosaurs and dinosaur cartoons like The Land Before Time with Littlefoot and Cera. Cera used to be SO annoying because she screamed so much from the evil Sharptooth T-Rex chasing them! But Leah loved the show. That year I gave her a dinosaur-themed birthday party. (The Jurassic Park movie is one of our family favorites.)

Video of Littlefoot dinosaur meeting Cera:

Although I laughed when I woke up this morning remembering my T-Rex dinosaurs dream, and the toy dinosaurs above don’t look frightening, at the time  my dream was scary.

I believe the T-Rex dinosaurs represent fear. What are you running from?

  • God?
  • Your purpose or calling?
  • Writing a book?
  • Fear of failure or fear of success?
  • A troubled marriage or relationship with your child, an in-law, a boss, a co-worker, a friend?
  • Debt/financial struggles?
  • A health scare?
  • The frightening news each day, like about Isis?
  • Something terrible happening to your children or grandchildren?
  • Never achieving your dream(s)?
  • Your life not mattering or making a difference?

Whatever it is that you’re running from, God doesn’t want you afraid. Here are 2 encouraging Scriptures for you today:

“If you will humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, in His good time, He will lift you up. Let Him have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.”–1 Peter 5:6-7, TLB

“When I am afraid, I will trust You.”–Psalm 56:3
