Where my trust is without borders

Many people set new resolutions, goals, and dreams at the beginning of the new year. God usually speaks to me through His word and through pictures in my mind. I often get a picture, a little taste, of the coming year, but this year I was drawing a blank page.

This week I sat down on the black couch in our front entry room to be still and shut out the noise to press more into God, asking Him for His guidance, protection, and blessings upon me, my family and our loved ones in 2014. A couple years ago, I heard about choosing “one word” or a “theme” for the new year. My friend Diane Cunningham’s 2014 one word is “Believe.” My friend Dana Arcuri‘s 2014 one word theme is “Action.” My friend Tony Robinson‘s one word for 2014 is “Freedom.”

At the end of December 2013, I’d been getting faint impressions from God for my “one word” for 2014, but I didn’t want it! I began seeing it everywhere, recognizing that as God’s fingerprints.

The word was actually having the OPPOSITE effect on me. The word was PEACE and God gave me an immediate Scripture reference to go with it.

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. ~ John 14:27, NLT

As the devil wanted, I began to be filled with dread for the coming year and wonder what it was that I was going to go through that God would NEED to give me that word, Peace! See how the enemy works?

Then I recognized that is the very reason God gave it to me. Fear, dread, worry and stress don’t come from God. Fear comes from Satan.

Fear’s purpose is to torment a person. God’s perfect love casts out fear, so I obviously needed to be more perfected in love! God does not want you and me afraid, but to be bold and courageous. (Joshua 1:9)

While I went to speak in Africa, two pastors prophesied over me that when I returned the U.S., in 2014 I would experience personal breakthrough in my life. After I came back home, another person prophesied that word to me. The Bible says 2 or 3 people confirms a matter. (2 Corinthians 13:1, KJV) I knew that breakthrough was my 2nd word for 2014.

God gave me a scripture for this, also: 1 Chronicles 14:10-17. The Philistines were Israel’s enemy. They heard that David had been anointed king. When there is an anointing and a calling upon your life, the enemy takes notice and comes after you!

David went to God in prayer to ask Him if he should fight them. We should never engage in spiritual warfare carelessly or presumptuously. Satan is a spiritual being and wiser than human beings. But the battle belongs to the Lord and we have authority over him through Christ. ( 1 Samuel 17:46-47; Luke 10:19)

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. But David heard of it and went out against them. Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the Valley of Rephaim. And David inquired of God, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up, and I will give them into your hand.” And he went up to Baal-perazim, and David struck them down there. And David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like a bursting flood.” Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim. And they left their gods there, and David gave command, and they were burned.

The word Baal-perazim means God of the breakthroughs or Lord of the breaches. In this passage, David said God had broken through his enemies like a bursting flood – which is a suddenly.

Do you need a breakthrough in some area of your life in 2014? Do you need God to move “suddenly”? Pray and seek God’s face this year as never before, and see what He will do on your behalf as you obey and trust Him!

I believe my breakthroughs this year will come suddenly. God gave me revelation one night that my peace would make or create my breakthroughs! AMEN!

This battle took place in the valley of Rephaim. The Biblical meaning for Rephaim was giants. There’s two theological thoughts on this. One is that the inhabitants were giants – physically large men and mighty in power. The other is that they were spirits who had a military function. Either way, they were nothing to mess with.

I believe this is a warning from God to me that in 2014, I will be facing big enemies. A friend confirmed this to me yesterday in prayer, not knowing God had shown this to me, This, of course, makes me want to RUN from 2014! But I have to remember God is greater than any enemy, and is my strength and peace! And He is yours, too, so we don’t need to feel afraid! God has our back!

The 3rd word I believe God gave me for 2014 is abundance. I believe that God speaks to us in a variety of ways: through His eternal word, in prayer and in worship, through other people, in nature (Romans 1:19-20 NLV), on signs and billboards, on social media, through art and music, etc. I began seeing this word abundance and the same verse on abundance everywhere on social media, and felt God impressing this verse on my heart for the coming year.

I believe He also showed me that as I seek and walk in His peace, which will create my breakthroughs, then I will experience abundance ~ His abundant life (John 10:10 Amplified Bible), abundance in relationships, abundance in health, abundance in prosperity, and as my friend Tony said yesterday on our Masters’ Mind mastermind/prayer group, an abundance of joy.

The Scripture God gave me that I was seeing everywhere on social media was Psalm 65:11 NKJV:

You crown the year with Your goodness. And your paths drip with abundance.

I believe God showed me a song that is for me for 2014, also. It is Oceans, Where Feet May Fail by Hillsong.

If you don’t have anything yet, just keep praying and seeking God. He will show you the way. As a friend on Facebook said, God isn’t restricted to our time table. He doesn’t have to give you a “one word” by December 31 at 11:59 p.m. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you, and speak to your heart what HE desires for you this year!

The lyrics which stood out to me in this song were: “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, Let me walk upon the waters Wherever you would call me. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, And my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Savior.”

I must have faith for 2014. I want to go where God wants to send me.

Through prayer and fasting before the New Year, I prayed that God would give my sister a breakthrough in 3 areas of her life where she has been stuck for years. During the fasting, I suddenly felt a rushing of the Holy Spirit down upon me, and a huge blessing for my sister came out of my mouth. It was incredible!
