Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms, stepmoms, adoptive and foster moms, and spiritual moms. Have a relaxing day and do something fun! Next to my salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, our three beautiful daughters Heather, Eden, and Leah are the most precious gifts that God has ever given me.

The t-shirt that I’m wearing today has the inscription, “Your greatest contribution to the world may be someone you raised.” Amen! “Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” (Daniel 11:32, NKJV)

Yesterday, Brew Haven – which has my favorite coffee and is my fave coffee shop – blessed me with pretty fresh flowers with my coffee and chocolate muffin order. They are the best! How thoughtful.

Ray bought me beautiful fresh flowers and a funny card this morning, too.

Recently we had what some call a “microburst” storm (like a sudden, small tornado) in Butler, Missouri, where we live. There was no tornado warning on our phones and it resulted in downed power lines, trees, hail, and a lot of water.
I was praying the blood of Jesus over us and our house as I scrambled to find our two cats Natalya and Nichodemus, but they bolted when the heavy hail and fierce wind began. I ran to our downstairs bathroom in the basement for safety. Later, I found them in separate bedroom closets, hiding.

Thank God that Ray, I, and our cats are okay and our house and property! Ray went to work yesterday and said that Butler looks like a war zone with all the trees down, but that we “avoided” it. I quickly said, “It was the blood of Jesus over us!”

Someone in town took this picture of a gorgeous rainbow in Butler after the storm. All the promises of God are ‘Yes” and “Amen.” (2 Corinthians 1:20) Keep praying for your children and your grandchildren. God hears your prayers for them!

Mother’s Day may not feel happy for everyone. It can be a depressing, discouraging, painful day for moms who experience the following situations:
- moms whose children live far away (or are very busy) and they can rarely spend time with them and hug them;
- moms whose children haven’t been speaking to them or seen them for weeks, months, or even years;
- moms of prodigal children;
- moms with children (still at home or grown) who are alcoholics or drug addicts;
- moms with children who are criminals and/or are in jail or prison;
- moms of missing children;
- moms whose children (whether biological, stepchildren, foster, or adoptive) who are angry with them, hateful, rude, and/or toxic;
- moms whose children have died (whether stillborn, aborted, or after birth at some point before the mom does).
There are also women in great pain who always wanted a baby but have never had a child.
For the moms going through the above heartbreaking situations, I want to encourage you that God loves your child even more than you do. He watches over them daily and He protects them. Keep praying!
“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” – Matthew 18:10
“But Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’” – Luke 18:16

For the women who desire a baby, I want to encourage you with the story of Hannah and her baby Samuel in 1 Samuel 1 (she prayed and wept for a baby and God gave her Samuel, one of the greatest prophets in the Bible). My own paternal aunt Betty and her husband Tommy couldn’t have children for years, and they adopted two children, Steve and Dawn. Years later, Aunt Betty became pregnant with her baby Tracey – what a miracle! God can give you the desires of your heart.
For other women, God may give you “spiritual children” – children who aren’t biologically yours but who God placed in your life to pray for and love. Two of mine texted me this morning “Happy Mother’s Day.” What a blessing, an honor, and a privilege! I never take this for granted. You can also love, pray for, and teach children at school, Sunday School, vacation Bible school, and summer camps.

Sophia Loren said, “When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. You are connected to your child and to all those who touch your lives. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” This is so true. Our kids are always on my mind! I pray for them (and others) every single day.
Today on Mother’s Day, I’m praying especially for them, that they have a fun, wonderful day. I’m so thankful to God for the blessing of being a mom. I hope you have a great, relaxing Mother’s Day, whatever you do.
