How to deal with life’s disappointments

Our daughter Eden & her son Jacob

Last night our middle daughter Eden came over to visit us with her son Jacob. They live a good hour’s drive from us, so we don’t get to see them that often.  It was good to see them. Jacob is adorable and growing up fast.

While visiting us, Eden was sharing candidly with us about her life’s disappointments. Unfortunately, Eden went through a divorce this past year, even though she didn’t want it.  It was emotionally painful for her, and now she faces life as a young single mom (she and Jacob’s dad share custody, with  Jacob’s father as primary custodian).

Christians are not immune to hard times or life’s disappointments – or even divorce. In fact, Jesus told us in John 16:33 (NLT), ” I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

When we are going through difficulties, it’s hard to keep from feeling disappointed in people and with our life circumstances. But God will never disappoint us, and His joy is our strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)  He gives us His peace as our gift.

Today, no matter what situation you are facing, know that God is there for you, to help you handle all of life’s problems. He will never leave you or forsake you.
