Lately I’ve been hearing and seeing the word “alignment” a lot. When these types of things happen, I know that God is speaking to me and trying to teach me something.
First, I look up the definition of the word or words.
The definition of alignment is, “arrangement in a straight line, or in correct or appropriate positions; a position of agreement or alliance; an adjustment to a line.”
Second, I search the Bible for the word(s) or ideas related to the word.
Jesus is the perfect example of someone being aligned to God’s will and purpose, in every area of His life. The Bible says in Philippians 2:7 that Jesus “emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.”
In the Garden, Jesus prayed, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup from Me, nevertheless, not My will, but Yours be done.” (Luke 22:24)
How can you and I come into alignment with God and His purpose for our lives?
First, come to know Him. Be saved. (Romans 10:13 says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”)
Second, ask God to show you any area of your heart and mind that is sin. (Proverbs 20:27 says, “The Spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts.”)
Third, dedicate your life to God. Let Jesus take the wheel, as Carrie Underwood’s song says. Let your thoughts, words, and actions reflect God’s.
I encourage you to look at each area of your life and examine it for “Divine Alignment.” These include:
- Your relationship with God;
- Your relationship with your family, your friends, and others;
- Your health;
- Your finances;
- Your spiritual gifts, talents, skills, abilities, education, and growth;
- Your faith;
- Your passions.
Today ask God’s help to align with Him and His purpose for you in all areas of your life.
