National Doughnut Day, new podcast up with Elizabeth Lundeen, & “Just Ask” letters

Today is National Doughnut Day. You can get a free doughnut with a coffee or a drink at many places.  I got my chocolate frosted doughnut at Dunkin, with a hot latte with cream. What is your favorite doughnut shop?

This day was started in 1938 by the Salvation Army in Chicago to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

From Wikipedia: Soon after the entrance of the United States into WWI in 1917, the Salvation Army sent a fact-finding mission to France. The mission concluded that the needs of American enlisted men could be met by canteens/social centers termed “huts” that could serve baked goods, provide writing supplies and stamps, and provide a clothes-mending service. Typically, there were 6 staff members which included 4 female volunteers.

About 250 Salvation Army volunteers went to France. Because of the difficulties of providing freshly baked goods from huts in abandoned buildings near the front lines, the two Salvation Army volunteers Ensign Margaret Sheldon and Adjutant Helen Purviance came up with the idea of providing doughnuts. They were a hit and many soldiers visited the huts.

Margaret Sheldon wrote of one busy day: “Today I made 22 pies, 300 doughnuts, 700 cups of coffee.” Soon, the women who did this work would become known by servicemen as “Doughnut Girls.” In Chicago and other places, it’s still a fundraiser today for the Salvation Army.

Podcast with Elizabeth Lundeen

I’m enjoying my hot creamy latte as I write this blog post. In other news this week, I had an anointed guest speaker on my podcast this week, Elizabeth Lundeen. She’s a volunteer firefighter/EMT for my husband Chief Ray Jones at Central Cass County Fire Department.

It is entitled Running From God. You can listen to the podcast by clicking here.

I’ve been sending out “Just Ask” letters to women’s ministry leaders at local churches to speak at their women’s events (conferences, retreats, workshops, etc.). I meet with one pastor tomorrow at his church to see it and chat with him further about this. I’m very excited about this. If you need a dynamic, Biblical speaker for your women’s event, or you know someone who is, please contact me here.

Returning Guest on Inspirational Journey

I love speaking and encouraging others with the hope of Jesus Christ. I’m excited to announce that I’ll be a returning guest on February 13, 2023, on Ann Harrison’s Inspirational Journeys: Stories That Matter Podcast and YouTube Channel. Ann and I will be discussing my newest book, Walking With God: In the Prophetic Lifestyle.

Walking With God cover

It is available for sale now as a Kindle eBook here. Ann said that while reading this book, she found some “profound gems.” This really blessed me!

The book is about the function of the spiritual gift of prophecy and how it operates in the Body of Christ. I also share my exciting adventures learning how to use this precious gift from God.

I’ll be sharing the links for Ann’s podcast and video with you when they go live, so stay tuned!

If you know someone who needs a speaker for their conference, retreat, online event, or podcast, please refer him or her to me here. Thank you so much for your prayers and support!

What’s new: my last Vlogmas of 2022, Cultivate speaking event, my new book, and one-word 2023

Hi there! I’ve got several exciting things to share with you today!

First, here’s my last Vlogmas 2022 (vlogs that are about Christmas – a vlog is a video + a blog). I share about creating a miniature Christmas tree for our daughters Eden and Leah from Ray’s mom’s (their “Mimi”) Christmas crafts. She made me one with bears when Ray and I first married, and made another with snowmen that I gave our daughter Heather when mom passed away, as Heather (and I) loves snowmen.

You can see the finished adorable trees, as well as me wrapping and mailing gifts, and our daughter Leah’s, Ray’s, and my Christmas gifts we got, set to Christmas music, on the vlog.

I’m still learning HOW to vlog, but it sure is FUN! I’ve been watching other vloggers on YouTube about Vlogmas & travel vlogs.

Below is the link to my last Vlogmas of 2022:
