Are you using your spiritual gifts for Jesus’ glory? Hawaiian party and Zoom event

Yesterday I visited my beautiful, precious daughter Heather and our grandkids Annabelle and Violet, and Heather’s fiance’s children Kayden and Eian. I bought Hawaiian-themed decorations and pepperoni pizza, chocolate cupcakes, and gifts for a “Back to school” little party. I was so happy to see and hug them. It was fun. They enjoyed it and they all thanked me.

HyVee grocery store only had “Happy Birthday” cupcakes, with the Frozen movie theme, but they were chocolate, so I bought them. They were delicious and the kids loved them!

The kids also enjoyed the pepperoni pizza. Eian had his own little cheese pizza. In fact, he ate so much that he said his stomach hurt, lol.

Then he wanted a chocolate cupcake. I was amused that mostly he licked off all the chocolate frosting. The cupcakes were a hit with everyone!

I bought silly sunglasses at the Dollar Tree for the kids. I thought it’d make a cute picture. I’m sure they thought the glasses were stupid and ridiculous, but it did make cute pics–love it! The girls’ sunglasses were yellow pineapples, and the boys were blue sharks. Eian loved his! He said he wanted to go swimming in his little pool then.

For Heather’s and my gifts, I bought us a lei and her a decorative, large flip flop (she likes flip flops and Nike sliders), and her and Andy drink glasses. These colored garlands are a way to show love, friendship, or to celebrate and honor someone.

They are a beloved tradition and custom in Hawaii and are common at graduations, parties, and weddings. Any occasion can be made more special by the giving of a lei. According to legend, a visitor leaving the islands who tosses their lei into the water and has it float on the current to the shore will someday come back to Hawaii.

Heather wants to visit Hawaii (as well as travel around the USA and the world). I’m praying she’ll be able to do this one day soon and that the decorations are prophetic of that!

I wrote encouraging notes in a card with a Scripture and bought the kids little school gifts, like Sharpie pens and Sharpie colored highlighters, pens, sticky notes, pencil grippers, a folder for their school papers, and various chocolates. The girls received pretty hair bows for their long, beautiful hair (Annabelle’s is dark brown like Heather’s, and Violet’s is red, which runs on both sides of the family). The boys Kayden and Eian got water guns, and I bought Eian a colored ball.

For Heather, I bought lavender bath salts for her to soak in after a long day at work, a bath sponge, a Sharpie pen, sticky notes, and a gift card for her and Andy to go on a date alone at Texas Roadhouse steak restaurant. Eian enjoyed watching her open her gift bag.

Andy’s toddler son Eian is adorable. He is very spoiled and has more toys than any child I’ve ever met. He loves John Deere tractors, firetrucks, and police and race cars. He kept bringing me his toys for me to admire them, haha! In this pic below, he’s showing me his soft stuffed puppy.

These gifts didn’t cost much, but were just a way to show them I love them and I’m thinking about them. I just hated that Kayden’s and Eian’s sister Kelsey wasn’t there too to receive her gifts and take pics. I found little gift bags at the Dollar Tree and pretty colored tissue paper for each bag.

I’m so thankful that I was able to see my precious, beautiful daughter and our grandkids, and Andy’s kids, too. I hope to see them again very soon! The kids love Starbucks coffee, so we may go do that next time! Please pray for them this school year to be protected from Coronavirus. I know that God is watching over them! Psalm 91.

What are your SPIRITUAL GIFTS? Do you know what they are? And are you using them for Jesus’ glory?

Pay attention to signs from God

Last night I had insomnia (again), tossing and turning all night long, so this morning I’m running on some good, hot coffee and am “loaded for bear,” as my friend Suzy Bunton often says. Later today I’m sure that I will crash, taking a nap, even though it’s advised not to take a nap if you have insomnia!

I just changed my website header to a sunflower and recently finished writing the third and final book of my non-fiction Metamorphosis book series, Transformed From Despair to Hope, available for sale at Amazon here.

This is the last book that God told me to write, which makes me very happy–because I obeyed God (for once!), doing what He said to do.

If I were to die today, I’d have peace knowing that I had completed the books God told me to write. My friend Stephanie asked does that mean I won’t be writing any more books?

If Jesus tarries and I live longer, probably not. I believe I’ll be writing books the rest of my life! What has God told you to do? Are you doing it? What is holding you back?

Me & my books

For me, finishing writing the list of books that God spoke to me about is a HUGE accomplishment. I plan to celebrate soon by getting my hair done (trim, color, and blonde highlights)! Whenever you reach a goal, whether it’s big or small, I encourage you to reward yourself in at least some small way.

Maybe it’s a Starbucks coffee, savoring some chocolate, eating chips and salsa, having a tasty lunch or dessert with a friend, traveling to a new fun place, getting a mani or pedi, going for a walk on a nature trail or hiking a mountain, watching a chic flic, getting new Sharpie pens (or your fave brand), buying a cute pair of ripped jeans, taking a pottery class, or _______________ (you fill in the blank). Just be sure to celebrate your accomplishments!

My graphic designer at Fiverr, who I love, is pro_ebookcovers and she rocks! Below are all three book covers that she made for me for my butterfly Metamorphosis series–beautiful!

Book 3

I love butterflies. For me, they are a powerful symbol–like the red male cardinal, the eagle, mourning doves, dolphins–of freedom and happiness. Whenever I see a butterfly or a red male cardinal (like I did yesterday outside the kitchen window, after tripping over a little girl right behind me in line at the store and badly skinning my knee; thank God she was okay!), I sense God’s Love for me and His presence.

Usually I see a cardinal or butterfly on the worse days, and it always comforts me and lifts my spirits. These things are tangible signs to me that God loves me, He sees me, and He is here for me.

What signs do you see around you that speak to you about God and how much He cares for you?

The Bible shares about many signs from God:

  • The sign of the Messiah who would crush the serpent’s head and save sinners (Genesis 3:15);
  • The sign of the rainbow, of the covenant between God and the earth (Genesis 9:13);
  • The sign Gideon asked God for, of the fleece wet with dew and then the ground wet with dew (Judges 6;33-40);
  • The sign of the plagues on Egypt because Pharaoh’s heart hardened (Exodus 7-11);
  • The miraculous parting of the Red Sea, so God’s people the Jews could escape bondage and go to their Promise Land (Exodus 14:21);
  • An angel appearing to shepherds announcing Jesus’ birth and a host of angels praising God (Luke 2:8-20);
  • The prophets foretelling of the Messiah in the Old Testament;
  • Jesus turning the water into wine at the wedding in Cana (John 2:11);
  • Jesus’ and the Apostles’ miracles (in the four Gospels and the book of Acts);
  • The signs in the end times, spoken of by Jesus and in the book of Revelation.

Jesus on the cross

Although we shouldn’t base our lives and faith on outward, physical signs, they are important. Pay attention to signs and, like Mary the mother of Jesus, ponder these things in your heart. (Luke 2:19, 51)

Some signs you might notice are:

  • God’s still small voice;
  • Confirmation through God’s eternal word;
  • A billboard or car bumper sticker;
  • A hymn, worship, praise or other song on the radio;
  • Nature–the sun, the moon, a rainbow, the stars, the wind, a storm, fresh flowers, animals;
  • An encouraging rhema word someone speaks to you;
  • Something amazingly wise and startling that a child says to you (for of such is the Kingdom of God!);
  • A Divine appointment that is too interesting and timely to be just a coincidence!

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)

Stop meditating on the couch cushions and save the people

I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, so instead of laying in bed tossing and turning, I got up and did chores. Afterward, I watched Dr. Aikyna D. Finch on Periscope. She is a very anointed, smart, and hilarious lady. One of the things she shared today was, “Stop meditating on the couch cushions and save the people. You have a message to share that others need to hear. How are you changing the world?”

Her scope was so convicting, especially since I was actually sitting on the couch as she said this! I really felt that God was speaking straight through her to my heart. Dr. Finch, who is a university faculty trainer, talked about the excuses we often give for not sharing our message with others.

Bible

Bible

Yes, God wants you and me to pray, read the Bible, worship, go to church, and all that jazz. But Jesus also commanded His disciples to go into the world and make disciples. (Matthew 28:19)

There is a lost world out there and not a lot of time left before Christ returns. And there is only one you with your specific calling and unique gifts to help others. It’s time to use your gifts and go save the people!

I needed that kick in the but this morning from Dr. Finch. How about you?
